PAPERS17 November 2010 An extra £9m in grants has been made available to help Welsh farming, food and forestry businesses become more competitive, rural affairs minister Elin Jones has announced. The funding will be allocated between the Processing and Marketing Grant Scheme (PMG) and the Supply Chain Efficiency Scheme (SCE). Both are part of the Rural Development Plan (RDP) for Wales 2007-13. Businesses can apply to the PMG scheme through a competitive bidding system. The application window is expected to open at the end of the summer. Daily Post Blackface lamb finishers in Scotland and the north of England have a new opportunity to react directly to consumer demand. A major procurement exercise announced yesterday is aimed at supplying a major contract with Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference campaign for Scottish Blackface lamb, which kicks off in December. Lambs must be sourced from members of the Blackface Sheep Breeders Society and will be killed and processed by Dunbia. Ian Watson, chairman of the farmers co-operative Farm Stock, said: “This is a major market opportunity and we need to capitalise on the opportunity to sell regular supplies of 14-21kg lamb from December through to April. Farm Stock is looking to source upwards of 7500 lambs for this premium market. We are particularly keen to secure supplies for January onwards and it is important that farmers start planning now to hit this market and achieve the best possible price. We are well aware that phasing sales of stock over the spring months needs careful management to match feeding with competing stock requirements.” He went on to say that farm stock will be “guaranteeing premium prices over market averages from January onwards”. When challenged by The Herald to quantify the premium, Mr Watson replied: “The exact premium price will be determined in January depending on the market at that time. It will certainly be sufficiently above conventional lamb prices to ensure we fulfil our contractual obligations to Sainsbury’s.” Herald Scotland 02 May 2013 30 April 2013 28 April 2013 23 April 2013 20 April 2013 16 April 2013 08 April 2013 04 April 2013 03 April 2013 30 March 2013 22 March 2013 19 March 2013 15 March 2013 11 March 2013 08 March 2013 07 March 2013 27 February 2013 24 February 2013 19 February 2013 14 February 2013 11 February 2013 10 February 2013 04 February 2013 01 February 2013 29 January 2013 24 January 2013 18 January 2013 17 January 2013 07 January 2013 04 January 2013 31 December 2012 21 December 2012 20 December 2012 10 December 2012 07 December 2012 27 November 2012 25 November 2012 19 November 2012 16 November 2012 09 November 2012 06 November 2012 01 November 2012 26 October 2012 22 October 2012 18 October 2012 15 October 2012 11 October 2012 09 October 2012 04 October 2012 02 October 2012 01 October 2012 17 September 2012 14 September 2012 11 September 2012 05 September 2012 26 August 2012 22 August 2012 21 August 2012 16 August 2012 14 August 2012 23 July 2012 20 July 2012 18 July 2012 16 July 2012 13 April 2012 12 April 2012 10 April 2012 05 April 2012 04 April 2012 02 April 2012 30 March 2012 29 March 2012 28 March 2012 27 March 2012 23 March 2012 21 March 2012 20 March 2012 15 March 2012 12 March 2012 09 March 2012 05 March 2012 02 March 2012 01 March 2012 29 February 2012 28 February 2012 24 February 2012 22 February 2012 21 February 2012 view archived news |
